I watched the first two episodes of "Agent Carter" last night. I liked it! Better than most of the MCU movies, in fact. Peggy's a fun character, and I'm looking forward to seeing what she does next. It's nice seeing Enver Gjokaj again too; I was very impressed with him on "Dollhouse." Is it just me or does Angie seem to have a crush on Peggy? In any case, I love seeing two women looking out for each other.

I managed to write five stories for [community profile] fandom_stocking, though four were drabbles.

For us all who are gathered here (1887 words) by Thistlerose

Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Barry Allen/Iris West
Characters: Joe West, Barry Allen, Iris West

Summary:

Joe and Barry wait up for Iris on New Year's Eve.

And drabbles for Justice League (Animated), Dragonriders of Pern, and Lion Voltron )

Things I want to write in 2015:

- The last part of that damn Pern AU, which has been in progress since 2009
- The story of Path's first mating flight, which I think I started in 2010 (I'm just in the mood for Pern, for some reason)
- A John/Wally/Shayera story, of which there's a sad lack at the moment (I even have a few potential titles)

I'm trying to decide if I want to go on this hike I signed up for tomorrow. On the one hand, it snowed this morning and it's supposed to be sunny tomorrow, so I'm sure it will be beautiful at the top of the mountain. On the other hand, the high for tomorrow is supposed to be 17 without the windchill, so I don't know. I do have a lot of layers (I bought long underwear yesterday!) but, as my co-worker pointed out, I can't cover every part of me.

Her: You can still get frost bite on your nose. Classes start tomorrow. Do you really want to come in on Monday with a peeling nose?

Me: Actually, that sounds kind of bad-ass.

Her: Oh, that's right, you're the one who came in with the black eye after your bike accident.

(I don't actually want frost bite on my nose, or anywhere else.)
thistlerose: (Star Trek: lovely new Kirk)
Title: On The Wing
Fandom: Star Trek AOS / The Dragonriders of Pern
Rating: teen+
Pairing(s): Kirk/Sulu, implied Pike/Winona, Spock/Uhura, and casual Kirk/Gaila
Warning(s): (highlight to reveal) At one point, Sulu tries to establish a boundary and Kirk steps blithely past it. (Hey, it wouldn't be Pern if everyone respected each other's boundaries!) Everything ends up being okay, but there's that. If you need more info, PM me. I would not characterize it as dub-con, but YMMV.
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] jactrades, for the [livejournal.com profile] kirk_sulu holiday exchange! Beta read by [livejournal.com profile] sail_aweigh. 2,130 words.
Summary: For one week, they were equals at High Reaches Weyr. Then J’mmy Impressed bronze Pineth while H’karu Impressed brown Choth, and everything changed.

By the time Wingleader S’pock called a halt to the day’s practice flight, the sun was low on the horizon, and the jagged shadows of the High Reaches stretched long across the valley far below. )

Eventually, I'm hoping to locate and organize all the story arcs I've written, but for now, this is a work in progress. Story arc = a series of three or more connected stories. All of these stories can be read independently. Unless otherwise noted, all links go to livejournal posts.

This post does not include my one-shots. At some point, I may catalog them as well, but for now, I think LJ's tag system does the job.

Who Loves, Lives
with commentary

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Rating: teen
Ships: F'lar/Lessa, F'nor/Brekke, Kylara/...men
Summary: The evening after Wirenth's first mating flight (which, in this AU, did not end in death) F'lar confronts his rebellious younger brother. Meanwhile, Kylara is torn by remorse and ambition.
A/N: Follows Who Tries, Does and Who Wills, Can in my Evil Weyrs arc. Fic + commentary is approx. 7,500.

'F'lar and Lessa were surprised to learn they're not the only ones capable of changing the planet before breakfast.' )

And here's an excerpt from the sequel, which is currently a work-in-progress.

Sometimes You Dig Your Own

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Rating: teen
Characters/Ships: Mirrim & Path, background Mirrim/T'gellan
Summary: She isn't sure who she is or where - or when - she belongs.
A/N: For [personal profile] boosette! 917 words. Set very shortly after N'ton chews her out in The White Dragon. (Chapter XIX, I think.)

Mirrim and Path arrived at Benden Weyr in such a huff that no one dared question their early return from Cove Hold. )

She Will Have Her Way

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Rating: teen
Ship: F'lar/Lessa
Summary: It's taken him a few years, but F'lar has learned a valuable lesson.
A/N: For [livejournal.com profile] calenlily! Also, Happy Birthday! This is approx. 490 words, set shortly after Dragonflight ends.

If F'lar had known that Lessa's tenderness could be purchased with a flamethrower, he'd have gone to see Fandarel about constructing one long before. )

Once, and Nevermore

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Rating: teen
Ship: B'lerion/Oklina
Summary: On a particular day in autumn, B'lerion finds himself needed by Fort's youngest weyrwoman.
A/N: 1,688 words. Set a few months after the events in Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern - which, on reflection, is my favorite book in the series.

This is good, said Nabeth. You will fix what's wrong. I will sun myself. )

To Harp and To Hold...in Russian!

I can't read Russian, but I still find this very cool. I wish I knew what people were saying in the comments. I see happy emoticons, so I doubt they're flames. :)

Who Loves, Lives

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Rating: teen
Ships: F'lar/Lessa, F'nor/Brekke, Kylara/...men
Summary: The evening after Wirenth's first mating flight (which, in this AU, did not end in death) F'lar confronts his rebellious younger brother. Meanwhile, Kylara is torn by remorse and ambition.
A/N: Follows Who Tries, Does and Who Wills, Can in my Evil Weyrs arc. There'll be at least one more story...at some point. This is approx. 6,100 words. Beta read by [livejournal.com profile] calenlily, to whom I'm very grateful!

'F'lar and Lessa were surprised to learn they're not the only ones capable of changing the planet before breakfast.' )

of hope and promise on dragonwings

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey
Rating: teen
Ship: Mirrim/T'gellan
Summary: I know it's crazy, but I always liked Mirrim. She may be a brat, but she's the first female green rider in two thousand years! I can't believe her fellow weyrlings made it easy for her.
A/N: This has nothing to do with my Evil Weyrs AU (I finished another one of those stories last night and it's with my beta reader!) This came out of nowhere this afternoon, when I was supposed to be working on school work. 1,620 words. Set during Dragondrums. Revised slightly: 3/4/2009

'Don't fight what you are. You've plenty of spirit, girl, and you'll need it all when young Path there is ready to fight Thread.' )

Who Wills, Can

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern
Rating: teen+
Ship: Kylara/...various
Summary: In an alternate universe where the queens' battle was narrowly averted, Kylara continues to make trouble.
A/N: This is a follow-up to Who Tries, Does, which was about the mating flight itself. I imagine there'll be a Who Loves, Lives at some point. This story is 3,713 words in length, and dedicated to everyone who expressed an interest in the Evil Weyrs of Pern. *g* A note on spellings: In my copy of Dragonquest, Kylara's dragon's name is spelled Prideth. In my copy of Dragonflight, it's Pridith. I think the DQ spelling is more widespread, but, for aesthetic purposes, I prefer Pridith, so that's how I've spelled it here. Heh. Like Kylara, I do what I like.

'What have you brought upon me and my Hold?' )

Who Tries, Does

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern
Rating: teen
Ship: F'nor/Brekke (& Canth/Wirenth, I suppose)
Summary: AU. What if Canth and F'nor had reached Wirenth before Prideth?
A/N: Ha! One more thing before I go. I wrote a Yuletide New Years Resolution last night. This is for Zulu. 1,675 words. Set during Dragonquest. In fact, the first two paragraphs are lifted directly from Chapter XII of Dragonquest.

( If he thought himself a match for the bronzes, let him prove it! )

Reprise

Fandom: Enchanted
Rating: PG
Ships: Canon ships, plus Edward/Giselle (but no infidelity)
Summary: Giselle returns to Andalasia after eleven years and finds Edward under a spell and in need of her help.
A/N: Written for Jade Sabre, for Yuletide 2008. 5,100 words. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] krabapple and [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 for beta reading. (Hee. There's a tiny plot hole we all missed. Just pretend it's not there, okay?) I think this is my favorite story that I wrote all year. It was certainly one of the most challenging.

( "Like I was saying," Pip said, after Edward locked them in the tower, "things haven't been so great here." )

To Harp and to Hold

Fandom: The Dragonriders of Pern
Rating: PG-13
Ship: Alemi/Elgion
Summary: Alemi is briefly torn between tradition and Harper Elgion.
A/N: And this one was for [livejournal.com profile] gillianinoz, also for Yuletide 2008. 1,200 words. I'd just finished reading Dragonsong for the first time since I was thirteen, and was struck by - what I took to be - Elgion's obvious attraction to Alemi. I couldn't help wondering if it was reciprocated. Also, tent peg! I love you, Anne, but oh my god. *is evil*

( Shards, he thought. If we clung to every single tradition, Menolly would not now be at Harper Hall, and I wouldn't be camping on this beach tonight, fulfilling a boyhood dream. )

I can't believe it's taken me this long to get to these requests. I'd meant for them to keep me occupied for a good long while, but not a year! And I'm only a little more than half done. Anyway, I had a dream last night, and in that dream there were two titles for this fic. Unfortunately, the less interesting one is the only one I remembered when I awoke this morning! I was going to friends lock this fic, but a couple of months ago, Anne McCaffrey decided that it was all write to post fan fiction set in her universe. Obviously, all characters and gimmicks belong to her, I'm not making money off this, etc.

One

Fandom: Dragonriders of Pern
Characters, Ships: Jaxom and Ruth, F'nor/Brekke
Rating: all ages
Summary: While preparing for a gather at Ruatha, Jaxom and Ruth receive some surprise visitors.
A/N: For [livejournal.com profile] arbaasanruth, who requested ficlet set in this universe, involving Jaxom and Ruth. I should probably warn you that it's been about eight years since I read a book by Anne McCaffrey, and I had to do a little research for name spellings, dates, and terms. If I got anything wrong, please let me know. This is set between Dragonquest and The White Dragon. Approx. 980 words.

( A shadow fell across the parapet, causing Jaxom – who was thoroughly soaked with sudsy water – to shiver. The shadow passed in a moment, and Ruth bugled joyfully. )
