Once again, I went back to my roots for Yuletide. Many, many thanks to [personal profile] archon and [personal profile] semielliptical for beta reading.

The Truth of It
Fandom: The Prydain Chronicles
Rating: all ages
Characters: Doli and Gwystyl
Summary: Doli wouldn't say that he MISSED any of his old companions. Still, he couldn't help wondering how they were getting on.
A/N: For [profile] isilrandir. Set post-series. 1,590 words. I swear, the actual writing of this story didn't take half as long as trying to figure out which plants were native to Wales and blossomed in the early autumn. That should have been easy. It wasn't. (Humph!) All the same, I do like this story. Doli has ever been one of my favorite characters.

Unlike most of his kindred, he'd dealt directly with mortals, mostly of his own free will. He'd fought alongside them, bled alongside them, shared their sorrows and triumphs.

__________

Knights and Ladies
Fandom: Voltron (Lion Team)
Rating: all ages
Ship: Allura/Keith
Summary: In which our heroine figures out what she wants and goes for it.
A/N: 1,910 words. For [personal profile] lunasky.

Why was she being so timid? She wasn't the girl she used to be, shivering under her blankets in her cave, just listening to ghostly voices out of legends, pretending she could rely on their protection. Here was one of her knights, in the flesh, and here was she, his equal.
thistlerose: (Faith)
I wrote these for the pan-fandom fic-a-thon [livejournal.com profile] inell is currently hosting. So with just over three hours to go...

Atonement

Fandom: Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Rating: teen-ish (language)
Characters: Faith & Buffy
Summary: She's no good at saying sorry - because, most of the time, she isn't.
A/N: Post-series, no comics spoilers. 430 words.

The words came out all strange, kind of crinkly-sounding, like her throat was lined with broken glass. )

Pillowcase

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: teen-ish (language, allusions to sex)
Ship: Kirk/McCoy (UST)
Summary: He has this shirt of Bones's, and he's not giving it back.
A/N: 700 words. I borrowed some elements from the Forever-verse, so this could take place between Heading Straight For A Fall and The Next Time You Say Forever. Or it could be read as a completely independent ficlet.
ETA: [livejournal.com profile] shingo_the_pest made art! Eeee!

It’s a little embarrassing, probably a little childish, but what the hell. )
thistlerose: (seasonal)
I bought groceries (salad! apples! mmmm!) and mopped the floor. I am a hero. I have done nothing else productive today. :)

Well, there's this:

End of the Year Fic Meme )
thistlerose: (Star Trek: lovely new Kirk)
These are just a couple of drabbles I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] 1297's latest drabble fest. I may do more if I get Yuletide finished today, but for now...

Breakfast in Bed
Ship: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: teen-ish
Summary: In which an apple is consumed. Prompt was "an apple a day." This was going to be dirtier, but I was at work and my conscience smote me.

'The saying is...' )

_____

No Need for Words
Ship: Sulu/Kirk
Rating: teen (barely)
Summary: Sometimes a simple thank you is not just inadequate, it's unnecessary.
A/N: YES, I broke from my OTP, albeit briefly. And yes, I resolve to write more about Sulu in the future because he's awesome and I'm starting to have ideas about him.

They don't make greeting cards for shit like that. )

Bloom and Grow
Outtakes & Deleted Scenes

Rating: teen
Ships: none involving canon characters (though possibly there's a whiff of Spock Prime / McCoy Prime if you want there to be, plus allusions to McCoy/Emony Dax)
Word Count: about 2,000

Originally, there was going to be a scene (a flashback, in fact) with Joanna on New Vulcan, hanging out with her friends there and meeting Spock Prime. It was going to be part of And Three, but it just wasn't working. I realize now that the tone was completely different from that of the rest of the story, and there really wasn't much in the way of coherence. Besides, by that point in the story there wasn't really any reason for a flashback except that I wanted more Spock. *g*

So, here are the scenes, with some comments from me. At some point, I'd kind of like to write more about Spock Prime in this fic 'verse, because he's kind of fun. (And he knows everything.)

Growing up in Savannah, Joanna had always thought it would be so interesting to meet people from other planets, to talk to them and find out what they were like. Unfortunately, not a whole lot of aliens came to Savannah – which was a shame, Joanna always thought, since they were missing out, as was she. )

Bloom and Grow
Part Three of Three

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: teen
Characters/Ships: Joanna-centric, with Kirk/McCoy, Joanna/OC, Joanna/Chekov
Warnings: none in this section
Summary: Five times Joanna McCoy wished she'd never set foot on the Enterprise, five times there was nowhere in the universe she'd rather have been, and one time she wasn't quite sure.
A/N: 4,450 words (this part only - 16,200 words total). Beta read by [livejournal.com profile] lauriegilbert and [livejournal.com profile] ailurophile6.
With illustrations by [livejournal.com profile] silveronthetree.

Faithful Friends

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: teen
Ship: Kirk/McCoy (background Spock/Uhura)
Summary: They're stranded on an ice planet, in a tomb, for crying out loud, with injuries, limited supplies, and malfunctioning communicators. It's still the best Christmas Jim's ever had.
A/N: Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ayaerhis and [livejournal.com profile] abigail89 for beta reading, and to [livejournal.com profile] sangueuk, for the push. Written for [livejournal.com profile] space_wrapped. 4,400 words.

He felt like he was forgetting something: not anything important like his serial number or the Enterprise's security codes. But it bothered him, and he found himself strangely reluctant to tell Bones. He didn't want to worry him when he had fractured femurs and punctured lungs to deal with, and something told him he should feel guilty for forgetting it – whatever it was. )

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: teen
Characters/Ships: Joanna-centric, with Kirk/McCoy, Spock/Uhura, Sulu/Rand, Mirror!Kirk/Mirror!Joanna, Joanna/OC, Joanna/Chekov
Warnings: Implied adult/minor (just in the Mirror Universe – the other Joanna ships are normal teenage crushes)

A/N: 6,600 words (this part only - 16,200 words total). Beta read by [personal profile] boosette. This is a follow-up to The Next Time You Say Forever, and it's probably a good idea to read that one first.

all you can do is do what you must

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Ship: Kirk/McCoy
Rating: Adult (for sex and language)
Summary: Early in his captaincy, a mission goes badly (though it could have been much, much worse) and Kirk doesn't take it so well.
A/N: 3,270 words. The original prompt, which I gave myself, was "spooning." It mutated into this plotty, character study thing.

He'd only been captain of the Enterprise for seven months; he was still convinced that half the admiralty saw him as their golden boy, their whiz kid, and the other half saw him as a catalyst for an interstellar war just waiting to happen. It was a lot of pressure, even if it meant nothing in the face of keeping his crew alive, and he'd taken his frustration out on Bones, lashed out when he should have leaned against him in sympathy. )
thistlerose: (Bones is Best)
Hold On

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: Adult (for violence and sex, but not violent sex)
Ship: McCoy/Kirk
Summary: Based loosely on the Ballad of Tam Lin (per a prompt at [livejournal.com profile] stxi_sinfest a couple weeks back) with alien whammies and McCoy to the rescue and oh, the things we do for love.
A/N: 1,985 words - proving that I'm capable of writing non-novels, thank you. Originally a bit shorter, but then I remembered these things are supposed to be smutty.

'He'll fight you. They'll make him fight you.' )

With Such a Sky to Lead Him On

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: teen
Ship: McCoy/Kirk
Summary: A pleasant walk, a pleasant talk.
A/N: For [livejournal.com profile] lilyrose_fic, who made the request. I think I got all the required elements. With heartfelt apologies to William Wordsworth. (Jim gets his lit!geek on.) The quotes are from "Tintern Abbey," "I traveled among unknown men," "Stepping Westward," and (natch) "To Joanna." Also, I suppose apologies are due to the good inhabitants of Cockermouth. 2,355 words.

Good God, he thought, not for the first time since the start of their shore leave / honeymoon, I didn't just get married again, I married this … this solar flare. This electric storm. )

Different Paths

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: all ages
Ship: Gaila/Scotty
Summary: Catching up with Mr. & Mrs. Scott, five years after the events in Say I Do And Kiss Me Quick.
A/N: For [livejournal.com profile] boosette, who made the request. (I'm still working on the others.) 600 words. Unabashed fluff.

Looking back, Gaila isn't sorry. )

'Twould Be a Wildish Destiny

Fandom: Star Trek Reboot
Rating: Adult (sex and language)
Ship: McCoy/Kirk
Summary: 'Twould be a 'wildish' destiny / If we, who thus together roam / In a strange Land, and far from home / Were in this place the guests of Chance... - William Wordsworth
A/N: For the [profile] space_married challenge. 3,640 words. Beta read by [profile] mrasaki and [personal profile] hardticket.

Jim seemed subdued when the Metrons finally teleported him back to the bridge of the Enterprise, but since McCoy didn't detect so much as a bruise with his medical tricorder, he decided not to worry too much. )

Like A Goddess You'll Be Kissed

Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Rating: all ages
Ship(s): primarily gen, with unrequited!Uhura/Spock, Sulu/OC, and Uhura/Scotty
Summary: Six people Uhura totally wanted to kiss, and five she actually did.
A/N: "Plato's Stepchildren" so skeeved me that I felt the need to write stories (there's another one in the works, possibly) about Uhura kissing people because she wants to, not because aliens made her do it. Approx. 4,320 words. Beta read by the lovely [personal profile] boosette.

'Then come kiss me, sweet and twenty / youth's a stuff will not endure' )

Pranks That Get You Laid Are Completely Logical

Fandom: Star Trek TOS
Rating: teen
Ship: Spock/McCoy
Summary: Exactly what it says on the tin. A missing scene from the end of "Operation - Annihilate!"
A/N: Written for this request at the [profile] st_tos_kink meme. Once again, my kink meme fic is not all that kinky. Oh, well. Approx. 1,140 words.

Spock supposed he could have said something reassuring just then. It would have been the kind thing to do, perhaps even the logical thing to do. For reasons he himself would never fully understand but would eventually ascribe to his human half, he chose to do otherwise. )
