I'm sitting by my window, listening to Scottish music, with a cup of tea and a lit candle beside me. There's snow all over the roofs and treebranches and clouds are piling up in what I think is the west. There's this one star visible above the clouds. It's really quite pretty and quiet. This, and the fact that I just spent a few minutes going through [livejournal.com profile] nassima's older paintings made me think of a story I wrote a little over a year ago. I still really like it, so I thought I'd share it (again).

Storytelling

Ship: Sirius/Remus
Rating: R
Summary: Lonely and bored in Number 12 Grimmauld Place, Sirius induces Remus to forget about his mission and keep him company for the afternoon.
A/N: [livejournal.com profile] nassima did a gorgeous illustration of this fic, here.

Setting: 1971 through 1977
Summary: Remus and Sirius spend five Christmases orbiting each other.
Notes: Part of the Midnight Conversations arc. Proofread, but unbeta'd. Expanded from a drabble I wrote at [livejournal.com profile] queerditch_pub a few months ago.

It was as though in order to have the very best of Sirius, Remus had to take the very worst as well.

The Things About Lily

Rating: PG
Ship: Remus/Lily
Setting: 5th year
Summary: There's only so much Remus will risk.

He was going to have to tell her at some point that he’d lied. Until then, Remus was content to sit here and watch her, and freeze his arse off, and let her freeze her arse off...

Burns Night

Rating: NC-17
Ships: Sirius/Remus, James/Lily, former Peter/OC
Setting: 25 January 1978
Summary: Blackmail, kilts, food art, public sex, light bondage, voyeurism, and poetry. Some national holidays are more fun than others.
Disclaimer: So not mine.
Notes: Thanks again to [livejournal.com profile] sheafrotherdon, for encouragement, and for helping me kick this fic into submission. This is dedicated to my entire flist. Thanks for just...being. Burns Night, celebrated in Scotland on the 25th of January, commemorates the life and works of the poet Robert Burns. Poetry is read, haggis is eaten (with whisky, preferably), and fireworks are set off. (Gotta love a country that toasts its writers in such a manner.) If you don't know who Footpad is, I suggest reading Midnight Conversation #1 first. It's short. Cross-posted on [livejournal.com profile] pervy_werewolf, [livejournal.com profile] two_boys, and [livejournal.com profile] remusxsirius

Part One: A Parcel of Rogues

Special thanks to [livejournal.com profile] louve_mae for the French. Set in the Midnight Conversations universe, though it can be read independently. Approx. 5,500 words. (You know you're obsessive when you know what your favorite character's ancestors were doing back in AD 70...)

Remus met his great-grandmother Sofia only once.

Turning

Rating: PG-13
Ship: Remus/Sirius
Setting: post-series
Summary: "The soul takes flight to the world that is invisible..." What happens when someone pulls it back?

Sometimes Sirius finds himself gazing at the black spaces between the stars. Then he feels his blood chill and the cold of death begins to seize him bit by bit, to draw him up into those empty spaces.
thistlerose: (Harry Potter)
Spiced Wine

One could not spend so many months beyond the Veil and come back the same. But Sirius was relearning himself.

_________

Beautiful Things
Ship: Sirius/Remus

Remus will tell him, sometime when he’s fully awake and can appreciate the beauty of a baffled Sirius.

__________

Fire and Ice
Ship: Charlie/Tonks, background Bill/Tonks
Rating: NC-17
Setting: nebulous (probably post-OotP)
Summary: Tonks is a fabulous woman, but she can't have Remus Lupin. In compensation, and as tribute to her general coolness, she will make her way through the younger generation of Weasleys. I think that's fair.
So this is what it feels like to be handled by a bloke who handles dragons

___________

Be Your Ride
Ships: Ron/Hermione, Bill/Remus, background Sirius/Remus and Hermione/Sirius
Rating: PG
Setting: post-OotP
Summary: The ones Sirius left mourn him separately and together. (For [livejournal.com profile] ajaxbreaker, based on two of her drabbles.
'He sounds like a real git,' Ron remarked. 'He was,' Bill agreed. 'He was a rebel, and he loved his image as a rebel. Always in your face with it, he was. But the thing is, he meant it. For good or bad, there was nothing insincere about Sirius Black.'

Summary: Nicholas Lupin comes to terms with his son, and his son's lover.
What Nick did not like -- what he hated, in fact -- was the way Sirius flinched almost every time his gaze met Nick’s, as though the man had caught the boy stealing or trespassing.

___________

Six Impossible Things That Happened to Ginny Weasley Before Breakfast
by Thistlerose

Rating: PG
Ships: Ginny/Luna, others
Setting: Harry's sixth year
Disclaimer: These are JK Rowling's characters, not mine. If she knew what I did with them, she'd probably laugh.

'All right, I know it’s been seven years and I’ve lost a bit of weight, but I can’t believe you don’t remember me.' Remus really looked at the young man for the first time. The round face he knew, and the large brown eyes, and the rather bashful smile. 'Not Neville Longbottom,' Remus said. 'You’re right, I didn’t recognize you at first. You’ve…' 'Grown up?' suggested Neville. )

Mars Has No Atmosphere (Yet)
by Thistlerose

Rating: PG-13
Ship: Duo/Hilde
Setting: post-EW
Summary: Starting over isn't easy.
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] arbaasanruth who requested cute Duo/Hilde, in which he does not hate her guts (because that would be insanely OOC). This is my first GW fic in well over a year. As a result, it's mostly dialogue-centric as I used the fic to reaquaint myself with the characters. Unbeta'd. Approx. 950 words.

Duo said softly, 'I’ll philosophize when you’re properly awake. Guess for now I’ll content myself with seducing you.' 'I’m already seduced,' said Hilde. )

'Where are we going?' inquired Sirius, jogging to avoid strangulation. 'Somewhere private,' grunted Remus. 'I can’t murder you in public.' )

Rating: PG
Setting: post-CoS
Ships: none!

Disclaimer/Notes: JK Rowling's, not mine. For [livejournal.com profile] kit_maxel who requested something about Ginny, inspired by Train's Meet Virginia.
Word Count: approx. 1,100
Betad?: nope

She can pour out her heart to the most evil Dark wizard who ever lived, but she can’t tell her older, well-meaning brother anything... )

Complicated
by Thistlerose

Rating: NC-17
Ship: Sirius/Remus
Setting: MWPP era
Summary: sex
Notes: For [livejournal.com profile] froda_baggins who requested R/S awkward first-time sex, and for [livejournal.com profile] jadis31 who requested R/S with the line "It doesn't taste bad." Too tempting not to combine the two. Un-beta'd. Roughly 1,000 words. Cheers!

Oh, Merlin, thought Remus, this is doomed. I can't even get my own tie off; how am I supposed to get his off? This is why blokes shouldn't shag; it's too bloody complicated... )

Fandom: HP
Rating: PG
Ships: Ginny/Luna, Arthur/Molly

Crossing Remus
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 335
Ship: Remus/Sirius
Note: I don't remember how, but at some point on Sunday, [livejournal.com profile] casirafics and I got onto the subject of emus, and I remembered this bunny I picked up when I was in Australia a year and a half ago. So, this is for Casira. What the hell were we talking about when we got to emus?!??

Though Hell Should Bar the Way

Fandom: HP
Rating: PG-13
Ships: Remus/Sirius, Charlie/Tonks
Setting: post-OotP
Word Count: approx. 3,000
Summary: Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.
Notes: This story works as a companion to I'll Come To Thee By Moonlight, though it can stand alone as well. When I was first spoiled for the ending of OotP my heart began to beat very quickly and I lay awake until I'd told myself this story. A year and a half later I finally decided to write it down. My ghosts are based more on Peter Beagle's than on JK Rowling's. Thank you to my brave beta readers, [livejournal.com profile] tinytinytina and [livejournal.com profile] rynne. And it's pronounced see-on, by the way.

Brian and Rebecca
by Thistlerose

Fandom: Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott (is this even a fandom?)
Rating: PG
Summary: Years after fleeing her native land, Rebecca hears news of turmoil in England, and confronts a ghost she thought she'd laid to rest.
Notes: Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] rynne for the beta read. Cross-posted on [livejournal.com profile] shakespeare_ch. I really meant to write a Narnia story for this challenge, but after many silent years, Rebecca of York started talking to me and expressed a desire to see Sir Brian again, and get a few things off her chest. As Sir Brian de Bois-Guilbert is one of the very few villains I've ever found lustworthy, I let them go at it one last time.

Assigned lines:

Ferdinand: Here ’s my hand.
Miranda: And mine, with my heart in ’t.

The Tempest, Act III, scene i

She wonders about the man she left in England, whom she had to leave, whom she does not regret leaving, even when she lies alone in bed and feels the darkness and the minutes leeching her youth and beauty. A star in Richard’s court, he will not fair well in John’s.  )
