“This is torture,” Kimber moans, draping herself over Stormer’s lap like a bony damsel in distress. “How am I supposed to stay awake for another hour?”

I'm very happy with it. Thank you so much, mystery writer!!

For the second year in a row, I got socks from my mother for Chanukah. They're very cute, but I'm not sure if she's trolling me, just a little. She also sent windchimes, which I've been wanting, though I've no place to hang them outside. So they're hanging inside for now. I guess come the spring I'll be able to open the windows again, and I'll get a breeze.

I know I'm supposed to be a grownup but, NGL, it's a little hard when people in my various hiking groups are posting photos of all the gear they got for Christmas, and I have to buy everything myself. On the other hand, I don't have to buy presents for anyone (except my friends' kids, because they're kids) so I guess it evens out. :\

We don't really do holidays in my family, except Thanksgiving, which is probably why it's always been my favorite.

Anyway. I was in NY last week. I had a nice time! I got to see [ profile] ragdoll. We visited Theodore Roosevelt's home in Oyster Bay, and then we went to see Rogue One, which I liked even more the second time. My dad turned 80 last Wednesday, and a bunch of his students threw him a very lovely party, which he enjoyed despite himself. On Friday, Dad and I went to the Bronx Zoo. There was hardly anyone there, for once, so we didn't have to push through crowds to see the animals. On Friday I hung out with my best friend and her family. Then yesterday - Christmas - I drove back home, stopping in the Hudson Valley for a hike. (For once, I had my choice of parking spots. Sometimes it's nice to be a Jew on Christmas.)

I should go out and buy groceries, since I have nothing green to eat except for some frozen brussels sprouts, but man, I don't want to get back in the car.

I hope you all are having a very lovely holiday.
